Running our own products keeps us honest about what it actually takes to ship and support real software, and that perspective shows up in every client project. That's the whole pitch."
      },
      "q2": {
        "question": "Why not just hire an agency? Or a freelancer on Upwork?",
        "answer": "Honestly, you absolutely can — and for some businesses that's the right move. The thing is, agencies usually hand you off to a junior after the sales call, and freelancers from bid sites often build something and then disappear when you need help six months later. Attuned Ventures is built to be the thing in the middle: a small studio you can actually reach by name, that answers its own emails, and that's going to still be around when you need a small tweak down the road."
      },
      "q3": {
        "question": "Who do you actually work with?",
        "answer": "Small and mid-sized businesses anywhere in the world — service providers, restaurants and shops, e-commerce stores, early-stage startups, and companies whose \"tech person\" recently left and now nothing's getting fixed. We're based in Cincinnati, Ohio, but work fully remote, so wherever you are isn't a blocker. If your problem can be helped by better software, and you'd rather talk to the people who'll actually build the thing than to a salesperson, we'll probably get along."
      },
      "q4": {
        "question": "How does this start?",
        "answer": "Easiest way is to book a call on the <a href=\"/contact-av\">contact page</a> — it takes about 20 minutes and it's free. No prep needed, no slides, no pressure to commit to anything on the spot. You walk away with a clearer picture of what you're trying to build, roughly what it'd cost, and a real sense of the path to ship it. If you'd rather skim more detail first, there's a longer <a href=\"/services#faq\">FAQ on the services page</a>."

The people who do care are the ones running the barbershop, the coffee spot, the gym, the family restaurant, the local league. The final number depends on what you actually need — after a free discovery call, we'll send you a fixed quote on a single page. No surprise add-ons, no minimum retainer required. If your budget is tight, we can almost always break the work into phases so you pay as you go."

A mobile app with a database behind it: 2–4 months. Your proposal will spell out a clear timeline, and you'll get progress updates every few days — not just a big reveal at the end."

After launch, most clients keep us on a small monthly retainer to handle tweaks, new features, and \"hey, can you fix this real quick?\" moments. The retainer isn't required though. If you'd rather just email when something comes up six months down the road, that works too."

We're based in Cincinnati, Ohio, but work fully remote with clients globally.         {
          "q": "How is this different from Squarespace, Wix, or Webflow?",
          "a": "Squarespace, Wix, and Webflow are basically rentals — you pay monthly forever, you're locked into their editor, and your site loads slower because every page has to load their whole drag-and-drop builder on top of your actual content. A custom-built site is yours to keep, loads in a fraction of the time, tends to rank higher on Google, and skips the \"page-builder tax\" on every visitor. For a simple 3-page brochure site, those tools are fine. For anything bigger, a custom build usually pays for itself within a year.<br><br><strong>Under the hood:</strong> page builders ship thousands of lines of JavaScript per page that visitors download just to display your hours. A custom site only sends what your page actually needs."
        },
        {
          "q": "Will my site actually show up on Google?",
          "a": "Yes — that's a big part of the point. Every site we build is set up to be findable on Google from day one: clean code, fast loading speeds (which Google rewards), the right behind-the-scenes labeling so search engines understand what's on the page, and a sitemap so Google knows what to look at. The week we launch, we'll also set up your Google Business profile (the listing that shows up next to the map when someone searches for your business) and Google Search Console (the dashboard showing exactly who's finding you and what they searched). Most of \"SEO\" isn't a secret — it's just groundwork that page builders skip."
        },
        {
          "q": "What does it actually cost me every month after launch?",
          "a": "For most small-business sites, somewhere between $0 and $25 a month covers everything. Your site lives on Google's hosting infrastructure, which is usually free up to a healthy amount of monthly visitors, plus your domain name renewal runs about $15 a year. If you choose to keep us on the edits retainer, that adds $150–$400 per month and covers us hosting your site, keeping it patched and secure, and shipping any edits you send. No surprise charges, and we lay all of it out in the quote so you can see the math up front."
        },
        {
          "q": "Who handles edits after launch — do I have to learn a CMS?",
          "a": "Only if you actually want to. Most folks just email us the change — new hours, a new photo, a new service to add, a new team member to feature — and we ship it the same day or the next. No clunky admin panel to learn, no plugin updates to remember, no \"who do we call?\" panic. If you'd rather be able to swap things yourself (menu items, blog posts, gallery photos), we can build a simple editor for that. It's totally your call.<br><br><strong>For the curious:</strong> a \"CMS\" stands for content management system — the WordPress admin area is the most famous example. They give you flexibility, but they also have to be maintained, updated, and kept secure. For most small businesses, emailing us edits is faster, cheaper, and one less thing to think about."
        },
        {
          "q": "What if we stop working together — who owns the site?",
          "a": "You do, completely. From day one, every important piece is registered in your business's name — your domain, your hosting account, your analytics, your code. Nothing is held in our account that you'd lose access to. If we ever part ways for any reason, you walk away with everything you need to keep running the site or hand it to another developer. No lock-in, no \"give us 90 days notice\" clauses, no scrambling.<br><br><strong>Under the hood:</strong> the site's code lives in a private Git repository under your business's account, the website hosting sits in your Google Cloud project, your domain is registered in your business name through a real registrar, and analytics is in your Google account. },
        {
          "q": "Do I even need an app — or is a website enough?",
          "a": "Honest answer: for most small businesses, a fast website with online booking already handles about 90% of what people assume they need an app for. Mobile apps really earn their keep when the same customers come back week after week, when your team works from their phones out in the field, or when bookings and payments need to feel like a single tap rather than filling out a form. The first call is where we figure out which one actually fits your business. No charge for the call, no upsell at the end."

        {
          "q": "How does the $500 24-hour Starter actually work?",
          "a": "It's a real, custom one-page website built specifically for your business — not a template, not a drag-and-drop. Here's how it works: we have a 20-minute call (or you fill out a short form), you send over your hours, a few photos, what you want to offer, and your phone number, and we build it the same day. Within a few hours you'll get a private preview link to look at, you give us feedback, and your site goes live on your own domain inside 24 hours of kickoff. Best fit: a shop, restaurant, salon, clinic, or trade business that needs to look legitimate on Google right now — and that can grow into a bigger Launch or Scale package later if you want. Things like extra languages, online booking, and payments can be added later. This tier is purely about getting you online fast and cheap, today."
        },
        {
          "q": "I don't have a domain or business email yet — can you help with that too?",
          "a": "Absolutely yes — that's part of the gig. <strong>If you need a domain name</strong> (the \"yourbusiness.com\" part), we'll help you pick one that fits your business, check whether it's available, and register it through a real registrar in <em>your</em> business name — not ours. The cost is whatever the registrar charges, usually $12–$30 per year, with no markup from us. <strong>If you want professional email</strong> (addresses like you@yourbusiness.com), we'll set up either Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 — your choice. That covers mailboxes for you and your team, the security setup so your emails actually land in customers' inboxes instead of spam, plus a shared calendar, shared drive, and video meetings. Workspace runs about $7 per person per month, M365 about $6, billed directly to you with no markup. <strong>If you already have email</strong> on Gmail, Outlook, GoDaddy, or wherever, we'll route everything cleanly so launching the new site doesn't break anything you've already got. Either way, you walk away with all the admin logins and own every piece.<br><br><strong>Under the hood:</strong> the email setup includes the proper DNS records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) so your business emails don't get flagged as spam. "a": "Honestly, plenty of small businesses don't — and that's a totally fine answer. If your customers only really need to interact with your business once a year, a fast website with online booking probably handles everything you need. Apps really earn their keep when the same customers come back often (gyms, salons, recurring services), when your team is out in the field working off their phones, or when phone tag and no-shows are eating up your week. The first call is where we figure out which one actually fits. No charge, and no upsell."

          "q": "Will my customers actually download and use it?",
          "a": "Honestly, sometimes they won't — and the surprising thing is, a lot of the time they don't have to. Most of what we build can also work as a regular web link your customers tap from a text message or your website. They click the link, they're in — no App Store search, no \"go install this thing,\" no friction. If your business genuinely benefits from being in the App Store and Google Play (gyms, repeat-booking trades, loyalty programs), then we build for that. If not, we keep things simpler. We figure out which one fits on the first call."
        },
        {
          "q": "Can it connect to the software I already use?",
          "a": "Almost always, yes. The software you're already using probably has a way for other systems to plug into it — and we've connected to most of the popular ones before: Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, QuickBooks, Square, Stripe, Shopify, ShopMonkey, Mitchell1, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Toast, and plenty more. If your particular software <em>can't</em> connect easily, we'll tell you on the first call — not buried inside a future invoice.<br><br><strong>For the technical folks:</strong> if your tool has a public API with OAuth or API-key auth and reasonable rate limits, integration is usually straightforward. For older tools without an API, we can sometimes use scheduled CSV exports, email parsing, or RPA as a fallback."

If we ever part ways for any reason, you walk away with full ownership and full control — you can hand the project to any other developer and they can pick it up cleanly.<br><br><strong>Under the hood:</strong> the code sits in a private Git repository under your company's account, the backend (database, server, hosting) lives in your Google Cloud project, and your App Store and Google Play developer accounts are registered under your business. Nothing important is held in our account."
        },
        {
          "q": "What does it actually cost me every month after launch?",
          "a": "For most small-business apps, somewhere between $30 and $80 a month covers it. That breaks down to Google's backend bill (usually free up to a healthy amount of usage), Apple's $99-per-year developer fee spread across the months, and Stripe's normal cut on any payments that flow through the app. If you've added AI features that are doing heavy lifting, budget a few extra dollars per active user per month. The trick is sending push only when it's worth a phone vibrate: an appointment confirmation, a \"your tech is 15 min out,\" a same-day opening. Subscription status and unsubscribe history come over so you stay TCPA/CAN-SPAM compliant. We can also keep a passive sync running for a few months if you want to dual-list while you decide whether to fully cut over."

The way we build keeps that risk small: every AI feature we ship is grounded in <em>your</em> real information (your documents, your records, your numbers) so it's answering from facts instead of guessing. You see exactly what every interaction costs in your own dashboard, and if we ever part ways, the account (and any unused credit) stays with you.<br><br><strong>Why it works this way:</strong> some agencies bundle AI usage into a monthly fee with a hidden markup. For a bigger AI assistant that's reading through your documents to answer questions, typically $30–$300 per month depending on how much your team or customers are using it. There's also a behind-the-scenes trick called prompt caching that can drop the cost of repeat questions by 50–80%, and we turn that on by default. Your data lives in <em>your</em> accounts, not a third-party AI service. And nothing gets logged anywhere outside your own setup unless you specifically ask for it.<br><br><strong>For regulated industries</strong> (healthcare, finance, legal): we can also use Azure OpenAI or Amazon Bedrock, which add extra contractual privacy coverage that satisfies HIPAA and similar requirements."

The good news for you: we write everything so the AI provider can be swapped with a single configuration change. When the next better model comes out, you upgrade without a rewrite.<br><br><strong>For the technical folks:</strong> for voice we use ElevenLabs; for image generation, Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (\"Nano Banana\") and OpenAI's Sora for video. If you already pay for Microsoft 365, you almost certainly already have Power Automate included — and it's both free and more powerful than most people realize. Zapier and Make are great for connecting common everyday apps quickly. Custom code only enters the picture when the no-code tools genuinely can't do what you need. We figure this out together on the first call — no commitment to one tool until we know what fits."
        },
        {
          "q": "What if my software is older and doesn't connect to anything?",
          "a": "Totally common — especially with industry-specific software that's been around for decades. When normal connections don't exist, we use a tool like Power Automate Desktop that essentially clicks through the software like a person would, just much faster and overnight while no one's there. It's a little slower and slightly more fragile than a normal connection, but it works on even truly ancient software. We'll always tell you up front when this is the only realistic option, what the tradeoffs are, and what to expect.<br><br><strong>For the technical folks:</strong> this is RPA (Robotic Process Automation) — the bot drives the UI through accessibility APIs and image recognition rather than calling a backend API."
        },
        {
          "q": "Will it break when vendors push updates?",
          "a": "Honest answer: it depends on which kind of automation we built. Connections that use a software vendor's official channel almost never break — those are designed to stay stable. The kind that mimics clicks (the workaround for old software) <em>can</em> break when a vendor redesigns their interface; that's the unavoidable tradeoff for automating software that doesn't offer a normal way to connect. Either way, every automation we build comes with monitoring that alerts us the moment something stops working, so it gets fixed quickly instead of failing silently for weeks."
        },
        {
          "q": "Who maintains it after launch?",
          "a": "You absolutely can — we leave you with a short plain-English document explaining how each automation works, and the platforms we use are designed for non-technical people to make small tweaks. Most clients do keep us on a small monthly retainer for adding new automations and the occasional vendor-update fix, but it's not required. Both ways work."
        },
        {
          "q": "What does it cost to run?",
          "a": "Usually nothing, or pretty close to it. If you're on Microsoft 365, Power Automate is already included in your subscription. If you're on Google Workspace, the equivalent (called Apps Script) is also free. For more advanced setups using Google Cloud, the cost runs to literal pennies at small-business scale. Tools like Zapier and Make have their own monthly subscriptions, which we'll factor into the recommendation up front so you know what you're committing to."

It's deeper than people realize, and dramatically cheaper than the alternatives at small-business scale. Tableau is great if your team has already invested heavily in it. Looker makes more sense for large companies running on Google Cloud. But for 95% of small businesses, Power BI wins on both cost and capability. We'll confirm what makes sense for your specific setup on the call."
        },
        {
          "q": "My data is in Excel files / SharePoint / a vendor portal. Can you still build this?",
          "a": "Yes — honestly, most of our builds start exactly there. Spreadsheets in Excel or SharePoint, exports from a vendor's portal, scattered files. Power BI handles Excel and SharePoint natively, and for vendor portals there's almost always either a download button, a scheduled email, or a behind-the-scenes way to pull the data automatically. Step one is just sitting down together and looking at what you've already got — no need to clean it up first."
        },
        {
          "q": "What's this going to cost in licensing?",
          "a": "For most small and mid-sized businesses, Power BI Pro is about $10 per person per month for the folks building and looking at reports — and it's often already included in your Microsoft 365 plan, so the real cost may be $0. For larger setups or scenarios where you embed dashboards inside another app, the next tier (Power BI Premium or Fabric) starts around $260 a month and replaces the per-person fees. We'll sanity-check your current Microsoft licensing on the call so you don't accidentally double-pay for something you're already entitled to."
        },
        {
          "q": "How fresh can the data be?",
          "a": "It depends on which tier of Power BI you're on, but here's the practical answer. The standard tier refreshes data up to 8 times a day on a schedule. Higher tiers go up to 48 times a day, or essentially real-time for things that genuinely need it. Most of our clients land on hourly refreshes for operations dashboards (orders, jobs, tickets) and nightly refreshes for finance reports. Truly real-time data is rarely worth what it costs in our experience — we'll figure out the right cadence together."

          "q": "Can different people see different data on the same dashboard?",
          "a": "Yes — this is one of the most useful features. Each person on your team gets mapped to a role (a rep, a manager, a region, a specific store, etc.), and the dashboard automatically filters what they see based on who's logged in. So a sales rep only sees their own deals, a manager sees their whole team, the owner sees everything — all from the exact same dashboard link. No need to build separate reports for each person or team.<br><br><strong>For the technical folks:</strong> this is row-level security (RLS) implemented in the data model with DAX filter expressions tied to USERPRINCIPALNAME()."

You're paying a fixed price for a written recommendation that you keep — and that you can hand to <em>any</em> developer or builder, not just us. If our recommendation does end up pointing toward building something, it's because nothing simpler fit, not because we needed the work. You're under zero obligation to hire us for what comes next, and plenty of clients don't — that's totally fine."

        {
          "q": "What if your answer is 'don't build it'?",
          "a": "That happens regularly, actually — and it's still a successful outcome. You paid for an honest answer, you got one, and you potentially saved yourself a five-figure mistake. The cheapest engagement (the Power Hour) exists partly because \"no, don't build that\" is a perfectly good answer to walk away with, and you shouldn't have to pay much to get to it."
        },
        {
          "q": "How do you stay vendor-neutral?",
          "a": "By keeping it structurally simple. No referral kickbacks from any vendor, no formal \"partner program\" arrangements, no \"certified\" badges we're trying to maintain. We do have strong opinions about specific platforms — opinions formed by actually building on them, not from a marketing brochure — but we have no financial incentive to push one product over another. The recommendation is whatever we'd actually pick if we were running your business."

        {
          "q": "Can we sign an NDA?",
          "a": "Yes — happy to sign a mutual NDA, usually within 24 hours of you asking. Specific vendor names, contract numbers, internal documents, and anything else sensitive stays strictly between us. We also won't ever name your business in a case study or marketing without your explicit written permission, NDA or no NDA."

If you don't, we don't. There's no lock-in clause, no \"minimum further engagement\" fine print, no awkward conversations. If we're done, we're done."
